JAA position on Media Engagement
And Industry Focus

10 February 2026

This statement may only be reproduced or copied in its entirety.

The Jewellers Association of Australia (JAA) exists to serve its members and support a strong, professional, and sustainable Australian jewellery industry.

Over an extended period, the Association has been subject to repeated media enquiries characterised by inference, selective framing, and artificial deadlines rather than balanced, good-faith reporting. Despite providing clarification where appropriate, these interactions have increasingly shifted from genuine fact-finding to pressure-based tactics designed to provoke misinterpretation or error.

The JAA is committed to transparency and accountability. The Board and staff have at all times acted responsibly and diligently in fulfilling their duties and advancing the interests of members and the industry as a whole.

However, the Association is under no obligation to engage indefinitely in correspondence that seeks to draw adverse conclusions from non-response or to re-litigate historical matters that pre-date the current Board and bear no relevance to its present governance or future direction.

Accordingly, the JAA has resolved it will no longer participate in correspondence or commentary of this nature.

This decision does not indicate an unwillingness to be scrutinised. Rather, it is a necessary measure to protect the Association, its staff, and volunteer directors from ongoing distraction, undue pressure, and mischaracterisation, thereby ensuring that the JAA’s resources remain focused on delivering member value and strengthening the industry.

The current Board is focused on:

    • Delivering tangible value to members
    • Enhancing governance and industry standards
    • Promoting constructive participation across the sector
    • Supporting jewellers in an increasingly complex commercial environment

The Australian jewellery industry deserves leadership that prioritises progress and constructive engagement. The JAA remains open to respectful, forward-looking dialogue with stakeholders who share this vision.

Please note that the decision to refrain from commenting on specific matters must not be interpreted as an admission, acceptance, or agreement with any claims or allegations. Non-response shall not be construed as acquiescence to any assertions or implications.

This statement represents the Association’s final position on these issues.
